Billing Accounts
A company can pay for other companies. If you keep separate companies such as "Acme – staging" and "Acme – prod", bill them both to one company and get one invoice, with a line for each company and one plan that covers them all.
What it's for
Separate companies keep work apart: environments, teams, or clients each get their own members, resources, and data. Billing doesn't have to be split the same way. Choose one company to pay, bill your other companies to it, and that company gets:
- One invoice with a line for each company it pays for, so you can still see what each one used.
- One rate for everything. Your per-task rate is based on the AI tasks of all the companies together, so a busy staging company and a quiet production company count toward the same plan.
- One plan and one payment method. The paying company's monthly commitment, credit balance, and payment methods cover every company billed to it.
There's no separate "billing account" to create. The paying company is just one of your companies.
Navigating here
From the builder sidebar, open the Company section and click Billing.
- In a company that pays for others, the Companies you pay for section lists every company billed to it, plus invites that are still waiting.
- In a company billed to another one, the Billing page shows a Billed to card naming the company that pays.
Only the company's owner, or someone with the Admin or Accountant role, can change who pays. Everyone else sees the same information without the buttons.
Key concepts
- The paying company pays for itself and for every company billed to it. It holds the plan, the commitment, the credit balance, the payment methods, and the invoices.
- A billed company keeps its own members, resources, data, and usage history. Its AI tasks still show on its own Billing page and in AI tasks, but it has no payment method, plan, or invoice of its own.
- One level only. A company that pays for others can't itself be billed to another company, and a billed company can't pay for others. A company is billed to at most one other company at a time.
- No personal workspaces. Your personal workspace can't pay for other companies or be billed to one.
- Invites need the other owner's okay. You can only add a company you're a member of. If you also manage its billing (owner, Admin or Accountant), it's billed to your company right away. Otherwise its owner, Admins and Accountants see an invite to accept or decline.
- Changes take effect right away. From the moment a company is billed to another one, its AI tasks draw on the paying company's credit and commitment. On the monthly invoice, a month's usage is billed to whichever company is paying when that month is billed.
- Unpaid invoices affect everyone billed. If the paying company's invoices go unpaid, AI tasks in the companies it pays for can be paused along with its own.
How to pay for another company
- Switch into the company that will pay, then open Company → Billing.
- In Companies you pay for, click Pay for another company.
- Choose a company you belong to and click Add to this invoice.
- If you own both companies, the company is added right away. Otherwise it shows as Waiting for their owner until that company's owner accepts.
To cancel an invite that hasn't been accepted, click Withdraw next to it. The other company keeps paying for itself.
How to accept an invite to be billed
When another company asks to pay for yours, the Billing page shows a notice: <Company> wants to pay for this company.
- Open Company → Billing in the company that was invited.
- Click Accept, then confirm Bill this company to <Company>?
- From now on, the other company pays and your company's usage appears on its invoice. Your own payment methods and plan stop being used.
Click Decline instead to keep paying for your company yourself. The other company can invite you again later. If your company is already billed to someone else, accepting moves it to the new paying company.
How to stop billing to another company
Either side can end the arrangement at any time.
- From the billed company: on the Billed to card, click Stop billing to this company, then Stop billing. Your company pays for itself from now on, including this month's usage so far, so add a payment method on its Billing page to keep AI tasks running.
- From the paying company: in Companies you pay for, click Stop paying next to the company. It goes back to paying for itself right away, and its owner needs to add a payment method so its AI tasks keep running.
How to choose who pays when you create a company
When you create a company from Companies → Create company, the Create a company dialog asks Who pays for this company?
- Bill it to <Company> — the default. The new company is billed to whichever company pays for the one you're working in (the company itself, if it pays for itself and you manage its billing). Its usage appears as its own line on that invoice.
- It pays for itself — the new company has its own billing. Add a payment method on its Billing page.
To bill a new company to another one, you must be the paying company's owner or have the Admin or Accountant role there. The question doesn't appear when you're working in your personal workspace. You can change who pays later from either company's Billing page.
