Updating Installed Apps
When the author of an app you installed publishes a new version, you can update your copy in place. You see exactly what will be added, changed, or replaced before anything happens, your data is kept, and a failed update rolls back on its own.
What it's for
Apps improve over time: fixes, new features, new columns in a table. Updating brings those into your company without uninstalling and starting over, and without losing the records your team has entered.
Navigating here
Open Marketplace → My apps. Each installed app shows the version you have. Apps with a newer version show Update available; the app's detail page in the catalog shows Installed · Update available too.
Only the company owner or an Admin can apply updates. For a paid app, your license must be active — if it has expired, renew it first. See Buying Apps.
Key concepts
- The review screen. Before an update runs, you see the version you have, the version you're moving to, the author's release notes, and every part of the app sorted into:
- New — will be added to your company.
- Changed — will be updated to the new version.
- Changes you made will be replaced — you edited this part after installing it, and the update will overwrite your edits. Note anything you want to keep before you continue.
- No longer used — the new version doesn't include it anymore. It's left in place in your company, untouched, so nothing you rely on disappears. You can delete it yourself if you don't need it.
- Your data is kept. Updating never deletes records. Tables only gain columns: new columns are added, and existing columns and rows are left as they are.
- Your settings are kept. Credentials, connector links, and your own settings for scheduled jobs and webhooks stay as they are. A custom app keeps its address, sign-in settings, and custom domain.
- Automatic rollback. Updates are applied one part at a time. If any part fails, everything the update changed is put back the way it was, and My apps shows that the update was rolled back with the reason. Your app keeps running on the version you had.
- Parts you didn't install. Updating only touches what came from the app. Anything you built yourself is never changed.
How to update an app
- Open Marketplace → My apps and click the app showing Update available.
- Click Update. The review screen shows the release notes and what will change.
- Check anything marked Changes you made will be replaced.
- Click Update to start. Progress shows on screen.
- When it finishes, My apps shows the new version.
If the update rolls back, the message explains what went wrong. Fix it if it's on your side (for example, a connector that needs to be reconnected) and try again, or contact the app's author.
